Subject: EU Software Patent battle may be lost in a few weeks

Dear Colleague,

The decisions in the European Parliament's working groups on software patents are falling within a few weeks. If things go on as they are going now, a US-like patent regime may be irreversibly established in Europe very soon.

This is because a group of big companies has succeded in creating an impression among a growing number of members of the European Parliament (MEPs) that all companies, regardless of their size, want software patents.

We have good MEPs, such as the rapporteur Michel Rocard (former french prime minister), fighting for our cause, and Rocard still seems confident that he can repeat the victory of September 2003. We must not let Michel Rocard down.

Please throw your weight behind the FFII, which manages the Nosoftwarepatents.com campaign and coordinates the lobbying of our side, by signing up at

right now.

Please do not hesitate to call me back if you have any questions.

Yours sincerely
